You can't take the Portland out of Nicholas Hanna. Because the City of Roses isn't just the place he lives; it's an integral part of who he is as a person, both personally and professionally.

To Nicholas, it seems only natural that the Laurelhurst home where he spent his formative years is only a few blocks away from his current address, where he lives with his wife and son. Even the schools he attended, All Saints Grade School and Central Catholic High School, are very close by. "I couldn't be happier about the neighborhood we live in. It's beautiful and very family-oriented—the ideal place to raise our son."

Nicholas' stick-to-itiveness is at least partly to thank for his success in life. He's been dedicated to working in the mortgage industry since 1990, doing everything from processing and underwriting to originating. But when the company he was working for closed its doors in 2007, he thought a change was in order.

"I didn't feel good about what I'd been doing. People were getting themselves into financial trouble because of their mortgages, and it didn't sit well with me. I swore I wouldn't go back, but then I met Renee and that changed everything." Nicholas appreciates that Rose City is different kind of company, one that cares deeply about how they treat people and gives back to the community. "It's all very Zen," he says.

When Nicholas isn't taking good care of his customers, he's pursuing his literary passions: reading and writing. He's part of a local book club, Friends of Mystery, and also has a penchant for researching werewolves, witches, and other things that go bump in the night.

Nicholas has even penned and published his own, kid-creepy children's book, Coven of Rats. His witchy ways were inspired by his grandmother, who used to tell him stories about Italian witchcraft when he was a child. "I found it fascinating and I've been interested in it ever since—especially the history aspect of it all."

History also plays an important role in Nicholas' work. He specializes in financing vintage and historic homes, primarily those built between 1900 – 1940. Call Nicholas at 971-235-9148 or send an e-mail to nicholas@rosecitymtg.com.
