Sitting on the sidelines has never suited Letanya Bjonskaas. In fact, when she saw a group of women skating at Oaks Park wearing elbow and knee pads, she immediately asked what it was all about. A few weeks later, she was skating in her first roller derby bout with Portland's own Break Neck Betties. Roller derby isn't just great exercise and a way to blow off steam. The teams raise money for different charities such as the Sisters of the Road Cafe, Basic Rights Oregon , American Cancer Society, Sherie Hildreth's Ovarian Cancer Foundation and more.
Letanya's love of roller derby helped her land an appearance on the television show L.A. Ink, a spinoff of TLC's Miami Ink. "I'm into tattoos, so I sent in a video of myself explaining my idea. It's a realistic black-and-white image of two skaters battling. They liked it, so I got to go to Los Angeles and get the tattoo on the show."
Fearless as she is, Letanya understands that purchasing a home can be a scary process, and she has a knack for alleviating that fear by educating her clients. "I always make sure my clients understand everything we're doing so they can be at ease."
