There's a cool confidence about Joey Fishman. Part of that comes from his life experience and his ability to think on his feet. But Joey owes much of his success to a lesson he learned early in his career: Always have a backup plan.
He learned that nugget of wisdom early in his career, working in the music video industry. "We'd be shooting a video, and everything needed to be there precisely at the right time. If someone or something was late, it could cost thousands of dollars. That's when I realized that it pays to create a contingency plan for everything," Joey says.
The mortgage industry suits Joey to a T. He's uber-organized, and has contacts in nearly every aspect of the business. He adds, "I owned a mortgage and real estate investment advisory firm in the Bay Area. I've got a stable of investors that I can pair up with entrepreneurs, as well as a wealth of contacts to ensure the best rate."
Even the most complex deals don't perplex Joey. He's so involved in the market that he trades real estate and mortgage related equities in his spare time, and also writes commentary for real estate blogs.
Despite being a self-professed nerd, it's Joey's personality that helps him connect with others. Throughout his career, he has built his success on referral business. "I pay attention to details, and all my clients give me referrals. I've become very customer-centric," he says.
