JJ Lee-Kwai is not green to mortgage lending, but she has helped to bring green business practices to Rose City. JJ came to us from the corporate banking world 7 years ago. She has been firmly rooted in every step of the loan process, and her expertise shows. She was ranked 45th in the nation amongst mortgage brokers for her work at Rose City, a company that cares as much about our community, the environment and empowering women as she does.
JJ’s interest in the environment was seeded as a child growing up in the coastal redwood forest. She traveled the world as a member of a choir and gained a true appreciation for cultural differences. In college she chose to study in Madagascar because of its biodiversity and conservation challenges. She’s even earned an M.B.A. with a focus sustainable business practices.
With a little daughter named Sunny as her inspiration, JJ is an active mom continually working to make Portland an incredible place to live. JJ started the Greener Good Women’s Marketing Group to support and empower women business owners to become more socially and environmentally responsible. She has served on the Scholarship Committee for the Portland Area Business Association for 5 years, and she served on its board for 4 years. She’s into sustainable landscape design, and she helped her neighborhood bring a large “naturescaped” community garden to a weedy hillside. Now she’s leading the shift to chemical-free gardens, serving as a mentor to neighbors and volunteering her design skills.
JJ keeps us on our toes. “I believe in working hard and playing hard,” she says. She loves biking, growing her food, hiking and going off the beaten paths in National Parks.
