James Komro knows a few things about being ahead of the game. Even when he was a kid in Salt Lake City, he was the youngest person in his grade. By the time high school graduation came along, he was just 17 years old.

Without wasting any time, James got a jump on his career while he was still a teenager, and quickly made a name for himself in the car rental industry. Shortly thereafter, James landed a management position, despite his young age. In order to take the new job, James had to pack up everything he owned in two days and move to Seattle, site unseen. It was a leap of faith; he had no idea what to expect, but the move turned out to be a fantastic decision.

James encountered another bend in the road when he bought his first house. "My real estate agent was encouraging me to become a realtor. At the time, I wasn't sure I could do it, but I'd always had a passion for real estate." A few years later, James decided that he was done working 70 hours a week. He connected with one of his regular rental car customers, a loan officer, who convinced him to give the mortgage industry a try.

"I'm a numbers person, and I love helping people out financially. When I work with first-time homebuyers, they remind me of how I felt when I was first buying a home. I was scared, and I needed someone to help me through the process. Now I get to be that person," James says.

In his personal time, James' is in constant motion. He's happy rollerblading on the Portland waterfront, skiing at Mount Hood, or riding around the West Hills and the Columbia River Gorge on his sportbike. And he's always up for hitting the off-leash areas with his two four-legged "kids," Sammy and Max.

When it comes to helping others, James supports several local organizations, including Meals on Wheels and the Friends of Trees. He is active in the North Portland Business Association supporting local business and the Portsmouth Neighborhood Association. He currently serves on the board of directors for Bridge Meadows, an intergenerational neighborhood for adoptive families of foster children.
