Jake Planton grew up playing soccer in Oregon City. He'd tape the European games and watch his favorite player Edgar Davids, the Dutch midfielder, over and over again, copying his moves on the field. "That was my inspiration," Jake says. Midfield is where the action is, that's why he loved it.
Jake began refereeing in high school and soon moved from the youth leagues to the men's open division. As a soccer referee, Jake learned how to keep his cool, stay focused and to be confident, yet polite. In other words, Jake has learned the people skills that make him a great businessperson. Jake says, "With reffing, you have to be able to listen. And in this business, it's important to focus and listen to what a customer needs. There's no tailor fit loan for everybody."
Jake also learned a lot about customer service, working his way through college at the busiest Starbucks store in Oregon. There was one downside to his hectic schedule of working, going to school, playing and reffing soccer. "Caffeine has no effect on me anymore," Jake laughs.
A regular Starbucks customer was impressed enough with Jake's skills to offer him a job at a mortgage company. Jake worked there for a year and a half, learning the ins and outs of the business before he landed at Rose City, a company he had long admired for their community outreach, donations to charity and sustainable business practices.
As one of the younger Rose City staff, Jake understands the importance of internet networking. He started Rose City Mortgage's first My Space page. He should know the benefits of My Space. He met his boyfriend there. The two of them live in Southeast Portland with their Yorkshire puppy, Dante.
When he's not playing soccer, reffing or working, Jake, movie freak, can be found in the movie theater, or renting his favorites at home. His two favorite movies are Shawshank Redemption and Jurassic Park although he says, "Spielberg nails it every time."
Jake has just begun volunteering at Cascade AIDS project and Basic Rights Oregon. "One of the beauties of this job is you can take a couple of hours and volunteer at your favorite organization," he says.
Be sure to call on Jake to see how he can help you with your home loan.
