FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (September 8, 2006)
Portland's Distant Planet Television Shoots Sustainable Building TV Series
What if your house could harness the power of nature?
Portland TV development company Distant Planet (distantplanet.net) Executive Producer Ed Eberle, announced today that production had commenced on its sustainable living and green building television series, The Natural House. The thirteen episode, thirty-minute workshop and home tour series is hosted by Portland based actress Pam Mahon.
The Natural house is produced on location at home sites where innovative design, new technologies and natural materials, have been utilized to create uniquely livable homes that reflect principles of harmony, economy, and ecological balance.
The series pilot will be shooting on location Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10, 2006, and features two homes.
The first, a 2,000 square foot mountain retreat is owned by Tom Kelly and his wife Barbara Woodruff. Kelly, President of Portland's well known residential and commercial building company Neil Kelly (neilkelly.com), recently completed construction of his unique self described 'experiment' in sustainable building at the foot of Mt. Hood near Parkdale, Oregon. The home features a wide variety of innovative green and state of the art building technologies, and a minimalist design profile. Powered completely by solar energy, the Kelly / Woodruff home is the first LEED (usghc.org) certified home on the west coast, and one of only four such homes in the nation.
The second home owned by the Ron and Christy Hays family is located on nine rural acres in Eagle Creek, Oregon. A fully pegged timber frame ranch style house, the Hays design pays tribute to traditional rural legacies, while incorporating a full set of 'deep green' innovative design elements.
Described by the homeowners as a 'safe haven,' the home features natural plasters, toxic free paints and includes thermal mass walls that help self regulate interior temperatures in both summer and winter.
The Natural House series will be produced in a thirteen state 'Green Arc" across the United States and feature two homes per state. The 'green arc' will provide viewers with a climatic, geographic and a stylistic overview of unique sustainable and green building projects across the country. Each of the thirteen episodes - and twenty six homes - will introduce viewers to unique houses and homeowners, forward looking builders, and visionary designers who have created sustainable homes utilizing the latest innovative green technologies.
In addition, Natural House sidebar features take the viewers' "Onsite" to visit with innovative resource, materials, craftspeople and technology manufacturers.
The pilot episode Onsite segments include a look at Portland's 'natural paint designers' Yolo Color House (yolocolor.com), the world famous Re-Building Center (rebuildingctr.org) and an 'Onsite' interview with Portland's 'green' mortgage broker, Renee Spears of Rose City Mortgage (rosecitymtg.com), who offers valuable insights on financing green building and remodeling projects.
The Natural House is one of a number of programs in development and scheduled for production in Oregon. Other Distant Planet projects include "The Rocking Horse Cafe," a cooking series for kids, Second Chance, a series of thirteen half - hour survival and adventure programs and Legends: The Spies Who Changed The World, a documentary history series.
The Natural House is based and produced in Portland, Oregon, the greenest, cleanest and most beautiful city in America.
