Rose City Mortgage Specialists Reaches $100,000 Charity Milestone

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (December 4, 2006)

Rose City Mortgage is putting its money where its mouth is. The Portland-based firm, one of the nation's first socially responsible mortgage companies, passed the $100,000 mark of total donations to local nonprofits on Nov. 27. Rose City contributes $100 to the client's charity of choice for every loan processed.

"The Rose City staff is extremely excited about reaching this milestone," says Rose City Owner Renee Spears. "It shows that every business, no matter what its size, can help nonprofits in a tangible way," she says. At least one Rose City employee is actively involved as a volunteer or board member in each of the eight organizations primarily served by the program. The staff volunteers as a group for individual events at many of the charities.

Eight organizations, supported by Rose City employees, receive the bulk of the contributions. They include Cascade AIDS Project, Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital, Girls Inc. of Northwest Oregon, Oregon Food Bank, Living Yoga, Raphael House, Sierra Club and the Surfrider Foundation. However, each client can opt for Rose City to donate in the client's name to a group outside this list. In 2006, 53 organizations received funding.

Spears initiated the contribution policy seven years ago when she started Rose City Mortgage in the family room of her home. As the business has grown, so has its ability to help nonprofits and the missions they serve. In 2006 alone, Rose City Mortgage contributed $28,221 to local nonprofits.

"Reaching the $100,000 mark is one of the biggest milestones of my life," Spears says. "It reassures me that we can be profitable and give back to important causes at the same time."

Rose City, located at 5200 SW Macadam Ave. in Portland, is one of the nation's first socially responsible mortgage companies, and recently was awarded the 2005 Oregon and Southwest Washington Small Business of the Year Award from the Better Business Bureau.
